Welcome to La Sassa!

La Sassa House is a holiday home placed at about 350 meters a.s.l. below the Marliana village, between Montecatini and Pistoia, immersed in a landscape of olive groves and woods, where the blowing winds from the sea and the mountains caress and relax the guests stay.

The apartments, located at the first and second floor of the house, are each provided with a double bedroom, a bedroom with two single beds, a living room with fireplace, a fully equipped kitchen and a bathroom with shower; in the lower apartment there are two more bedrooms, each with one large single bed. In the apartment upstairs a spacious terrace offers a splendid view over the Valdinievole and the surrounding mountains, while at the downstairs' one a large porch and a threshing floor allow the tenants enjoying a relaxing outdoors.

La Sassa House is set in the middle of olive and fruit trees, all surrounded by a forest of chestnut, oak, pine and acacia trees. If you stay in the right time you can find mushrooms or in winter follow all the steps of the olive oil production from the olives harvest until processing in the oil mill. It is a really quiet place surrounded by nature, ideal for a relaxing weekend or for a period of holiday. The house can also serve as a base for excursions to the art cities and all the interesting sites in Tuscany, all accessible in less than an hour and a half drive.

History

Lands populated since prehistoric times, were inhabited first by the Ligurian and probably since the third century AD by the Romans. Archaeological excavations have unearthed remains of considerable importance related to a settlement that had to rise near Casore del Monte, where they found a third century AD burial. In the grave, discovered by chance in 1930, were found at least four coins, one of which, a board uncial bronze, dated 214 AD.

These lands crossed since remote ages by direct routes crossing the Apennines, still retain recognizable features of the ancient cobblestones. In this respect is striking and perhaps not entirely without foundation the hypothesis that these pathways were those used by Hannibal in his march to Rome in the spring of 217 BC.
